Any Dog can be dangerous, but equally any Dog can make an amazing pet. It is down to the way the Dog is raised and trained that makes it dangerous or friendly - not its breed; contrary to popular belief. Many people would have you believe that a Dog's breed means that it is inherently more aggressive, such as a Rottweiler being inherently more aggressive than a Labrador - but this is not true. Not given the proper training a large Labrador can be just as dangerous as an untrained Rottweiler. Therefore, yes, Pit Bull Terriers can be dangerous, but only if they are not raised correctly. They can make just as safe a pet as any other breed of Dog with a responsible owner.
