The generally accepted definition of an endangered species is one that faces a very high risk of extinction in the near future. Polar bears do not fit this definition yet because there are still about 20,000 individuals living in the wild.
The loss of sea ice in the Arctic in recent years, however, poses a serious threat to polar bear habitat. Polar bears can only hunt seals, their main source of food, when the seas are frozen. When the sea ice melts, the bears are stuck on land where there isn't much food available for them. As the ice melts for longer periods each year, there is a growing danger that the bears can't get enough food in the winter to sustain them through the other three seasons.
For that reason, the U.S. Dept. of Interior decided in 2008 to list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), ruling that loss of habitat puts polar bears at risk of becoming endangered in the foreseeable future.
now
Right now nothing. Polar bears are doing quite well.
The polar bear is listed as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN.
At present, there are beteen 20000-25000 polar bears, and they are considered "Threatened", by the IUCN, not an endangered species at this time.Polar bears have never been extinct. Though they were on the endangered species list the numbers are now recovering and still considered 'at risk'.
I can't tell with a picture but, I can tell you that the black rhino and polar bears are. That's all I know right now.
mostly poachers, (humans) and some will die of starvation, so now there is a law to protect them in place. Actually, polar bears are doing so well that we now allow hunting of the species. They are doing far better then wolves currently. Polar bears are not endangered and are growing in numbers over the past decades. They were hunted. many years ago, to a low of 800 and now number well over 26,000. They are not endangered currently.
Right now, polar bears depend on humans. The habitat of the polar bear is decreasing. Because of global warming, the ice is melting. Polar bears are dying off because they have to swim long distances to get to ice.
because chance hiat shot and killed them all and now is presurveing them in his freezer and will eat them later.
it is mostly cold because its in the articPolar bears live in a polar climate. (you can guess why it's called a polar climate now right? because Polar bears live there and they're kinda called POLAR bears).Polar bears live in polar climates.they live in very cold climates. like below freezing.
Yes. A large portion of the solid ice is no longer solid (being blamed on global warming) and Polar bears are now being found, drowned, too far from the shore.
No one. They are not on any legitimate endangered list. Their growing numbers are pat of that reason. Some groups use this lie to collect money from people that do not understand the issues. Political figures use this to modify opinion, but no polar bears now number well over 20K.
Polar bears are now protected.
