Pugs are good dogs for people that would like a dog with personality and is playful. It is not a good dog for people that will like a independent dog or a dog that can exercise for ages ( pugs have very short muzzles).
Yes, pugs are VERY good dogs. I have two, and had another one before I got them. They are wonderful pets, they are funny, playful, extremely smart and a pure joy to be around. They are also very loyal and get attached to you very quickly if you treat them well.
They don't need any more training than any other dog breed does, but as for their needs, they have the same needs as any other dog breed. They need love, attention, food, water, shelter, etc.
They do have one area that needs only a very little more care than some other dogs do, which is their nose fold (the wrinkle above their nose). It needs to be kept clean and dry, which is very easily done by gently wiping it with a soft dry cloth a few times a week.
Also, due to their extremely short snout, they cannot tolerate heat as well as dogs with long noses. If the temperature gets above 80 - 85 they have more difficulty breathing because the air they breathe in can't cool off before they inhale. So for this reason, they cannot be kept outside in hot weather. But dogs of their size should never be kept outside anyway; they are meant to be house dogs.
