Not "very" - but relatively easy.

Care needs to be taken to go slowly or the knife will slip and cut more than you wish to.

Use a felt-tip marker - a fine-pointed one - to mark out the areas to be cut away, or mark it with a skewer or other pointed implement. This helps you to keep it to the size you want.

A good idea is to scrape as much of the pumpkin flesh away as you can when you hollow it out so as to leave the face thinner and easier to cut through.
It depends on how strong you are, the age of your pumpkin, and the quality of the knife you are using. I find that the older a pumpkin is, and/or the sharper your knife is, the easier it is to carve.
