Domestic rats are best kept in groups of two or more. They are naturally social creatures who will suffer if lest alone, and the company of a human is no replacement for the company of another rat.

∙ 10y agoRats are extremely social animals. In the wild they live in packs of hundreds! In captivity they do better in pairs (same-sex preferred) unless you are willing to spend a lot of time with him/her. Otherwise, they get lonely and tend not to live as long.
