This dilemma came up in my family a few years ago. Turtles in general aren't going to be any more violent towards children than adults. However, I assume that you're children are going to want to handle the turtles, in which case I do not advise you get some. Turtles are solitary animals, and make fine pets if handled only when necessary (i.e. vet, or tank cleaning.) There are certain breeds of turtle that may be better than others, however by word of mouth I have heard that tortoises are supposed to be more timid than turtles, however I cannot even begin to assume this as it was told from a non professional. Hope this helps!
if you mean the fish spelled PLECO. There is a small chance that it will.
1stly its not "red eye slider", its "red eared slider". the biting may be his way of saying keep out of my territory. you should separate themin these cases
I'm pretty sure. I've had a red eared slider and an Ouachita map turtle living together in the same tank for about... I don't know exactly... Maybe about 3 years? They are friendly toward each other (well, they aren't mean to each other) so I'm pretty sure they can be in the same tank. But my red eared slider did grow up together.
it means you will be dead within 10 hours and should be taken to the vet as soon a possible
well i have 4 that i got all together, i was only gonna get 2 then i realised cant have michaelangelo etc from ninja turtles with only 2 so got 4. As long as enough space as in 2007 they were babies and were so small now they are big started off in a tank then one would attack the smaller one. So read on internet needed space so now in a pond outside
Red-Eared Slider can stay dry for days to weeks, but they cannot eat without water, I mean enough water to site in while eating as they cannot swallow without the ad of water. If you are transporting the red-Eared being dry is okay, keeping a turtle as a pet dry will be almost considered torture as they will slowly die of starvation and dehydration
First of all, a 10 gallon tank is too small for a turtle, let alone a turtle AND a frog! The proper rule of thumb for aquatic turtles is 10 gallons for every inch of turtle... if you have a 4 inch long turtle, you need at least 40 gallons of water. And second of all, putting a frog with a slider of any age will mean a fed turtle. The turtle WILL eat the frog. Don't try it.
I'm not sure what kind of turtles you have. I am assuming that they are aquatic and probably the common Red Eared Slider. The males of the species have especially long front claws (nails) that they flicker at a female. If you have two that are doing it to each other, I suspect that you have two amorous males. The females have much shorter nails and shorter, wider tails.
1-2 days
When your red eared slider hisses at you, it is basically the same as when a cat hisses. They either want you to stop handling them, go away, or get out of their face. My larger and grumpier red eared slider hisses all the time, so don't take it personally if they hiss at you and think they hate you. They've just had enough. But I laugh at mine, since all you have to do sometimes is walk by him and hear a soft "ssssssss!!!" :)
It could only mean one thing.....I sorry to say this but it has cancer :( You might as well kill it now and take it out of its mesery. Owwww, sucker. I mean how sad...
YOu know the mini turtles get to become huge turtles when u say mini turtles i am guessing you mean red eared sliders these are the most common turtles they cost about 20 dollars but they get bigger and its hard work to keep one and you will probably have to spend over 200 dollars in the long one to keep it
