Ive had my lip piercing done for 3 1/2 weeks, I ordered a lip retainer when school told me to take out my metal stud. I went to my trusted piercer and ask them to put in my retainer , they had mega trouble getting it in (even with Vaseline ) and told me to go home and try in a couple days after the piercing was less irritated ( during my time at the piercers , my piercing went red, and swollen) ... The next day I sea salt soaked it, and rubbed alot of vaseline on my piercing and the retainer , it slipped in after 2 tries... About half an hour my piercing wasn't red , and the swelling went straight down again . I think retainers are excellent ... My piercing is healing alot quicker then my sisters lip piercing ( shes always had metal bars) . Just be careful not to irritate it, have a couple attempts and if not going in then leave it till the next day. But overall , go for it!
First off, don't use vaseline. Its WAY too thick and prevents proper ventilation so it actually makes things worse. You can use vitamin E oil as lubrication instead. Glass or bioplast retainers are fine o use because they can autoclaved. Go to yourpiercer and they should have some in stock.
If they are made from bio-compatible materials they are fine.
Piercing retainers are clear bioplastic retainers ment to be used when jewellery cant be worn (like at work or in school) and sit in the piercing to retain the piercing while the jewellery is out.
Bio Plast and PTFE retainers are available for your piercing, you need to talk to your local professional body piercer who can order in a retainer for your piercing.
If you've had the piercing for only four weeks then yes, it will close relatively quickly. My lip piercing was two years old and closed up in only a few days, leaving a small scar. If you don't want it to close but do want it to go unnoticed look into piercing retainers.
its cool.
For your upper lip, Left is a monroe piercing. The bottom lip could just be a lip piercing, or labret piercing.
Clear retainers do not hide lip piercing as well as I thought it would. I put one in , and you could still see the piercing. It was hard to speak because I kept focusing on swallowing it. Since I was at work I didnt have the ball on it. So there was nothing keeping it together from the front of my mouth. Then i tried putting the small ball on it, and putting make up on it.
14g is normal for a male lip piercing, 16g is normal for a female lip piercing.
