We feed our roosters along with our chickens. We feed them laying pellets and chicken crumbles we purchase at the feed store. We also give them oyster shells to help produce strong thick shells on the eggs. We also feed them vegetable and fruit scraps. They live grass too. Grass helps the yolks to become more yellow and rich tasting. We are small ranchers, but this is what we do and our chickens that they told us would only last 3-4 years, are still kickin' and laying after almost 6 years. The same things the hens do. Pretty much anything they can find. Processed food, cracked corn, vegetable peelings from the kitchen, bugs, worm, whatever comes along.
Roosters are certainly edible, in the sense that their meat is a nutritious source
of protein and fat, and eating it won't poison you. But they are not popular,
because their meat is tougher than that of a hen, and doesn't taste as good.
A rooster can eat grass and vegetables such as carrots, lettuce, etc. As long at it is small and able for the rooster to eat it also fan eat pellets and some fruits DO NOT FEED: avocados, potatoes, and beans
