Are science and the Bible against each other?

Definitely not for a number of good reasons.

Firstly, science rightly understood has nothing to say which contradicts The Bible. Efforts to make it do so demonstrates a philosophical bias towards the idea of naturalism which is not science but philosophy.

Secondly, the Bible is essentially a book of religion and not science and so the two don't overlap that much. However, where the Bible speaks on matters which relate to science there is nothing proven from science which contradicts the Bible. Much is said to do so, but there is also much that clearly doesn't but in fact supports the Bible. There is no need to ignore the facts which support the Bible and to interpret discoveries in order to discredit the Bible. This is not science.

Thirdly, modern science is based on and was started by many scientists who believed the Bible, people like Keppler and Newton for example. Both their discoveries and their methods are based on Christian presuppositions including the existence of an orderly world created by a God of order, the laws and details of which God gave us the ability to discern and discover and harness.

Fourthly, it is not sufficient to endeavor to downgrade the Bible to purely a book about religion which has nothing relevant to say about scientific matters. For while the Bible is essentially a book about religion it also claims knowledge about many matters of significance scientifically, although it does not go into the detail of a modern scientific work. The idea that God created the earth and the universe in 6 days around 6,000 years ago has much support from scientific evidence but does not depend on fallible and changing opinions of science.

Summary:

There is thus no need to see that science and the Bible are in opposition. This is not a logical necessity from the facts of science (versus interpretations based on naturalistic philosophy).
