Shetland ponies are versatile, easy to train, intelligent and docile making them excellent first ponies for children.
They are not always necessarily faster but are quicker than larger horses in their pace. It sort of feels like your riding a sewing machine in the trot, but hey, it's not that far to fall if you have a spill!!
They are popular at Pony Club and a great asset to the show ring. Most Shetlands enjoy work and would happily go all day. Some are stubborn, like a lot of ponies, but it is a bit of a lucky dip which personality they will have on the day.
