Hmmmm...., in my opinion, garden snails aren't the smartest animals in the world. You see, if you poke them when they are asleep (like when they are in their shells), shouldn't they think a predator is trying to eat them and should go inside their little shell even more ( since I got them from the wild and they are not captive at all). However, the cute not-so-smart garden snails poke their heads out of their shell. If I was a predator, I would've easily eaten him!
However, I think water snails (you know, the ones that live in water and that are sold in petstores?) are a bit smarter, depending on which. When i was in kindergarden, we got this really active water snails and put them in our aquarium with the fish. Then my mom left the top open. No problem eh? Wrong! The snails crawled out of the aquarium and when I returned home from school I saw two dried up water snails under our dinner table. That was the kind of water snail I bought when I was in kindergarden (you never know what kind of water snail I could've bought, you know). Last week, I bought two Mystery Snails, and they are smarter. They do NOT climb out of the water. They have these weird sticking out thingys (I know, not good language) and when it touches the surface of the water, they turn back and go down. Ah, smarter. When they go down they usually slip and fall off, but that doesn't mean they're stupid or anything.
I hope this information I got from experience has helped you!
No, apple snails and mystery snails are not the same. Apple snails belong to the family Ampullariidae and are typically larger in size compared to mystery snails, which belong to the Thiaridae family. Additionally, apple snails are considered invasive species in some regions, while mystery snails are popular aquarium pets.
Yes, salt can be lethal to snails. When exposed to salt, snails can quickly become dehydrated as the salt draws water out of their bodies, eventually leading to their death.
