There are two kinds of pretzels, one is hard and one is soft. Hard one is covered in some salt and the soft one is like bread.
Pretzels were first made from scraps of bread made by monks in Germany. They were given to children as rewards for doing well is school. These were originally soft. It is rather the hard Pretzels which are a modern invention.
Pretzels and Bagels are often fat free, as are some Pita breads and some Tortillas. It is always best to read the list of ingredients on the label, because different brands and different regions vary in their ingredients.

Gluten is in wheat, and wheat is found in most pretzels. However if you want gluten-free pretzels, you can go to grocery stores, and look for them. If they say gluten free, then they will not have Gluten in them. Whole Foods has the best gluten-free food selection of any grocery store I have been to.
There are 24g of carbs in one serving size (about 19 pretzels) of mini pretzels. An original soft pretzel from Auntie Anne's has 72g of carbs!
