Flowering plants (angiosperms) are monocots.

The above answer is partly correct in that the grasses such as rye, rice, wheat and corn are monocots, but all other flowering plants except for the grasses and sedges are dicotyledons (dicots).

Is hornwort a monocot or dicot?

Neither. Monocot and dicot are two classifications of vascular seed plants (the flowering and cone plants) Hornworts are in a very primitive group of plants usually called Lycophytes. The Lycophyta also includes liverworts and mosses. They are the non-vasuclar seedless plants. Since the terms monocot and dicot refer most specifically to the structure of the seed, they do not desribe the seedless plants.

Is a cedar tree a monocot or a dicot?

Neither, because it is not an angiosperm (flowering plant). A monocot (monocotyledon) is an angiosperm with one cotyledon (seed-leaf) while a dicot (dicotyledon) is an angiosperms with two cotyledons (seed-leaves). Western red cedars are gymnosperms. A gymnosperm has "naked seeds" meaning that the seeds (ovules) are not found in an ovary but rather on leaves, scales or in cones.
