Are spider crabs dangerous to man?

Not really. They can pinch you, yes, and if they're big in size - they can cause some pain, but no severe wounds or death. There are some very, very large species, but you'd rarely meet one on your everyday beach, and they're usually living more than 10 feet underwater.

The crab spider is a member of the group Thomisidae and, as with all members of this group, are not known to be harmful to humans.

The Sicarius grouping of Spiders, however, closely resemble Crabs and are sometimes incorrectly identified as "crab spiders". These Sicarius species are not related to the real Crab spiders (of the Thornisidae family) and are actually close cousins of the Recluse Spiders, and are highly Venomous.

It is therefore important to identify the Spiders correctly so you can be sure of what you are dealing with.
