All sugar gliders smell, personally I find that female sugar gliders don't smell as much as male sugar gliders. clean their cages about once a week, and change their pouches every so often or whenever you start to smell them. People claim that the unique odor comes from the scent glands on the sugar glider, but its for the most part due to their urine. if you know someone with sugar gliders you should see what they smell like before you buy one. I was in for a rude awakening when I purchased my second glider, but if your a new buyer, don't be worried. All of the information on the internet is for your knowledge, and to make sure that you are ready to take on the roll of being a parent to these cute and fun little creatures.
Almost all websites tell you all of them are stinky.. especially females. But really it depends on the person, how well you take care of them, their cage, food, etc. Cleaning is the key to no smell! Every glider is different. Some might be really messy and you will have to clean their cage 2-3 times a week. Others might have to clean only once a week.
They do have a slight odor, but as long as the cage is kept clean, the diet that they're on is good, and they are healthy..they should not be "smelly".
Unneutered males smell more than neutered males.
they are described as very stinky animals but if you clean their cage often and dont leave their food out for days and days they arent stinky.
