The two main branches of the Canadian Cordillera are the Coast Mountains and the Rocky Mountains. The Coast Mountains run parallel to the Pacific coast of British Columbia, while the Rocky Mountains extend from British Columbia into Alberta.
The Canadian Coast Mountains are tall, steep, and rugged, because of recent and current geologic movements crumpling the crust of the earth. One part of the earth's lithosphere, the North Atlantic plate (made of continental rock), is moving from east to west. At its western boundary, it meets another lithospheric plate, the Juan de Fuca (made of oceanic rock). As these two plates converge or come together, the oceanic plate is forced underneath the North Atlantic plate. The result is a crumpling of the crust. Sometimes volcanoes erupt. Thus, the Coast Mountains continue to be formed.
Fold mountains are defined as mountains created by the bending of rock layers. Volcanic mountains are mountains created by breaks in the Earth's crust. In Canada, there are many examples. For example, the Appalachian Mountains and the Rocky Mountains are fold mountains. The Canadian Shield and the coastal ranges along the North American west coast are examples of volcanic mountains.
The Coast Mountains mountain range lie on Canada's west coast. The Coast Mountains also extend into the United States in Alaska.
the eastern coast gets more rainfall because of its tall mountains which turn water vapour to droplets of rain.
The Andes are tall, rocky mountains that line the West coast of South America. The mountains have high, pointy peaks and are covered in snow.
There are a number of ranges, such as the 'Cariboo, Skeena, etc. that go into making up the Canadian Rockies.

The Appalachian Mountains form a boundary with the Canadian Shield. The Canadian Shield is a large geological formation covering much of eastern and northern Canada, while the Appalachian Mountains run along the eastern coast of North America, from Alabama in the U.S. to Newfoundland in Canada.
