The Western Ghats or the Sahyadri are the ranges of hills parallel to the western coast of India starting from Gujarat right upto Kerala. The ghats are hill ranges on the top of which starts the Deccan Plateau

The range is called Sahyadri in northern Maharashtra and Sahya Parvatamin Kerala. The Biligirirangans southeast of Mysore in Karnataka, meet the Shevaroys (Servarayan range) and Tirumala range farther east, linking the Western Ghats to the Eastern Ghats. In the south the range is known as the Nilagiri malai in Tamil Nadu.
