Are the PlayStation 1 games backwards compatible for the PlayStation 3?

On the older model PS3 with 4 USB ports most PS2 games can be played, but not on PS3 consoles that have only 2 USB ports. The 80GB model that went to Korea in Jul 2007 would probably have 4 USB ports and Models sent in late 2008 and 2009 would probably have 2 USB ports.

The Playstation 1 games that are available from the Playstation Store are able to be played on the Playstation 3 when purchased from the PlayStation Store. The PS3 can run select PS1 game titles using the software emulation that is part of every PS3. Not every Playstation game title works perfectly and that is why Sony says that select Playstation games can be played on the PS3. Most actually work work without problems and they are covered from having to fix the system when a game does not work perfectly. Many of the PS1 Playstation games sold in the Playstation Store are improvements over the orginal games and are not the same poor graphics they orginally were.

Wrong some PS1 games titles are free and Playstation Plus members are often are often offered a discount on other titles and other times free use as long as they remain a Playstation Plus member. When is it expected that games you're getting from a store be free.

Yes it will play games from the earlier PSP. It does not have a UMD Drive and will not play PSP UMD games
