Yes. Bipolar swings can be triggered by stress, season, outside situations, or nothing in particular. Only a mood stabilizing medication can regulate this swinging, and even with those, there are always going to be some ups and downs.

My daughter is bipolar and I have learned that sleep deprivation can cause a manic episode. Loss of sleep has been the most common factor in the onset of an episode for her. She is taking a mood stabilizer and that helps some but does not prevent episodes entirely.

The levels of certain chemicals in the brain, and the actual brain waves of bipolar patients are different. How patient respond to the Surroundings can trigger cycles of manic & depression.
