Groundhogs and skunks are in different families. Groundhogs are in the Marmota genus, the Sciuridae family, and the Rodentia order. Skunks are in the family Mephitidae, the superfamily Musteloidea, the suborder Caniformia, and the order Carnivora. Although groundhogs and skunks are both mammals, they are only distantly related : )

Molina's hog-nosed skunk was created in 1782.
Striped hog-nosed skunk was created in 1785.
The spotted skunk, Spilogale putorius, is a mustelid, related to weasels, badgers, ferrets, otters, etc. It's closet relatives are the striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis, the hog nosed skunk, Conepatus leuconatus, the hooded skunk, Mephitis macroura.
