Ice shelves float on sea water and except for the geology that they drag during their flow into the water and drop to the seabed, contain no soil.

The notion of 'land' coupled with the notion of 'ownership' may be the genesis of your question. No one owns Antarctica, regardless of its natural assets.

Why do some Ice Shelfs collapse?

Ice shelves can collapse due to a combination of factors such as rising air and ocean temperatures, increased meltwater infiltration, and calving events where large chunks of ice break off. This can weaken the structural integrity and stability of the ice shelf, leading to its eventual collapse. Additionally, climate change has been linked to the accelerated collapse of ice shelves as it contributes to warming temperatures and rising sea levels.

What is the process of forming an iceberg called?

The process of forming an iceberg is called calving. This occurs when chunks of ice break off from the edge of a glacier or ice shelf and float away as icebergs.

Are the North and South Poles considered deserts?

The South Pole, which is located in Antarctica, is a desert. The North Pole is not located on a continent but on sea ice so cannot be considered as a desert. Continental lands that do surround the Arctic would be considered as tundra.

What deserts are in the Arctic and Antarctica regions?

Only Antarctica is a true desert. Most of the Arctic is seasonal sea ice and those few areas of land are mostly considered as tundra.Only Antarctica is a true desert. Most of the Arctic is seasonal sea ice and those few areas of land are mostly considered as tundra.
