Well, what's your own opinion?
Personally, I think certain values are still inherent today that the colonists held. Like for example ..
- Strong attachments to rights/liberty/etc : America, and American media sources are mostly slightly liberal. Many people are strongly protective of their own rights, though, regardless of political orientation.
- American Exploration/Conquering : Americans (at least in my opinion) still hold on to the belief that nature and other parts of the world, should be conquered / reigned over, if that makes sense.
What do you think? They believed in the Providence of God. I see that in my parents and I see it in my life. There have been hard times but I've never been abandoned.They were optimists believing that they could create as fine a society in the new country, free from persecution, as the one they were coming from, even better. Optimism is in short supply these days but anyone who starts a family or plants a tree or is working toward a goal, sacrificing, is an optimist.They were hard workers, ascetic, determined. I see that in immigrants who will live 10 people in one apartment, working, eating, sleeping and that's their life.They were brave and strong accepting whatever adversity befell them and yet still trying, still fighting, still glad to be alive. I saw that in the mountain climber whose arm was pinned under a rock. He severed it in order to set himself free. He chose life.
