Are Floppy disks considered high capacity disks?

No. Floppy disks have the lowest storage capacity of any mainstream storage device. Hard drives, CDs, DVDs, and Flash drives all hold far more data than a standard floppy disk. Even when they first came out, hard drives and tape reels held more data (though they also cost far more).

Flash drives have replaced floppy disks as the perferred method of portable storage because?

They can hold more data than floppy disks and computers aren't really made with floppy disk entrances :)

What are the disadvantages of using a floppy disk as a medium of storage?

The biggest disadvantage is that it has very little storage capacity. The maximum storage capacity of a (last generation) floppy disk is around 240 megabytes. A USB stick, CD, or DVD-ROM can all hold much more than this. Secondly, fewer and fewer computer termnials are being manufactured with floppy disk drives, since they have been replaced by other storage methods. This means it is hard to get your data off the disk. Thirdly, floppy disks are more easily corruptible than other methods of data storage.

Why are floppy disks useful?

Presumably because they are an easier way to carry around data than dismantling and transporting a hard drive. It is highly doubtful whether floppy disks are useful today, they have too little capacity. A USB flash drive serves the same purpose (simple to carry data around) in a smaller format and with more storage space. For permanent backups or installing programs, CDs and DVDs have taken over the role of the floppy disks.

What is the function of floppy disk?

The function of a floppy disk drive is to provide a means of writing/reading data on/from floppy disks in an industry standardized method. Floppy Disks were invented as an improved means for storing/transporting data on/from computers. The universality and standardization of disk storage technologies was important to the personal computer industry. By standardizing these complex technologies, computer manufacturers were able to, over time, inexpensively source drives and disks, thus reducing the cost of the computer systems. This made PC's more affordable for everyon

Floppy disk disadvantages?

Mainly lack of capacity. A floppy disk is usually 1.44 MB. Modern flash drives, hard drives, etc. are in the gigabytes and terabytes ! You can still use a floppy drive (I have a USB external floppy drive), but it will become more difficult to get new floppy disks as manufacturers abandon a rather antiquated media.

What is the difference between a Zip disk and a Floppy disk?

Yes, Zip discs are considerably larger than standard floppy disks. A standard floppy disc is 90mm × 94mm x 3mm. Zip discs are much wider longer and thicker at 97mm x 98.5mm x 6mm. This is because internally the platter of a Zip disk had a much higher spin speed and required space to spin free of any resistance.

What data storage device can hold more than 1 gigibyte?

The only data storage devices that do NOT hold more than 1 GB are 1.44 MB 3.5" floppy disks and the 512kb 5.25" floppy disks. All modern thumb drives, hard drives, network attached storage, etc. generally hold more than 1 GB. Some hold more than 1,500 GB.

What are the differences between a floppy diskette and a high capacity disk?

Magnetic storage has come a long way since 1967 when IBM developed the 8-inch floppy disk. However, I assume you are referring to the 5 1/4 floppy that came out in 1976 and the 3 1/2 high-density disk that came out in 1987. The three major differences between these two disks are the physical size, the storage size, and the speed. The 3 1/2 disks were much quicker, smaller in size, and held more data.

Do usb flash drives have more capacity than floppy disks?

the max of a floppy is maby 250 killabites. 1000 killabites make a gigabite. jump drives can hold more than 16 gigabites

When selecting secondary storage devices for a new desktop PC which is more important a CD-ROM drive or a floppy drive Why?

Floppy drives are not as necessary as they once were because the industry is moving toward storage media that can hold more data, such as CDs.The CD-ROM or optical drive. Floppy disk drives have stagnated in development; any off-the-shelf drive these days will support the highest commonly available capacity, 1.44 MB. Many people these days don't even use floppy disks.

What is the difference between hard disks and floppy disks?

hard disks are generally contains within the computer and contain FAR more memory than a floppy disk does. floppy disks generally contain 1.44 mb where as hard drives are constantly developing and are currently about 1TB MAX. floppy disks are external in the same way as CD's
