Mesa was arrested after evidence was found and a check from Varner's stolen checkbook was cashed for a used laptop computer. Mesa, after four hours of interrigation finally confessed to both murders.
Although Mesa was caught before he could kill a third time, he is still considered a serial killer, as it was just a matter of time before he chose a new victim.
