Yes there is no meat in buttermilk. It is not vegan which is a diet that doesn't consume any animal products at all.
If the person is aware of nutrition and ensuring that they are getting adequate amounts of calcium, iron, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, protein, and so on, then being vegetarian can be a healthy diet at any age.
If you're preparing a vegetarian meal, or trying to stick to a vegetarian diet, then nonveg is wrong. But if you haven't got any restrictions like that, then eat/use what you want.
