The Great Auk is now extinct. It was a flightless bird of the North Atlantic which spent most of its time at sea, only coming in to rocky, remote islands to breed. It was hunted to extinction in the 1800s. The Great Auk was not a penguin, but it resembled the penguin in that it was clearly adapted for life in the sea, and had a white front and a black back.
