What does the fair trade symbol mean?
Many people never think about what the fair trade mark means, thinking its just a sign that makes people think about Fair Trade. But there is more to the blue, green and black symbol than people think. The fair trade mark shows that the product it is on is "Fair Trade certified" meaning that it has been grown and produced from a fair trade farmer and this trade mark has been copy righted so that unless they are actually produced from a fair trade farmer and cannot be forged by any farmers who are not from fair trade. The mark of Fair Trade is used in over 50 countries around the world.
Is ghirardelli fair trade?
Ghirardelli is not certified fair trade by any third party organization which issues such certifications.
Is Folgers fair trade?
Starbucks does get a lot of it's coffee beans from fair trade sources. To be fair trade certified though, I belive the percentage of fair trade products needs to be higher than Starbucks currently achieves .
Should you buy fair trade?
Because what usually happens is farmers in other countries grow products and ship them to companies that sell them to market stores. The problem with this, because of free trade, is that the companies hold a monopoly of sorts on farmers. The companies can pay the farmers whatever they please because the farmers need to sell their products to someone and they usually are not able to sell enough locally to make a living. And so that they themselves can make some sort of living, farmers often feel it necessary to take advantage of their workers, if they have any. It's in these conditions that human trafficking often occurs. Farmers and/or their workers are often forced to work in horrible conditions and the make anywhere from barely enough to support themselves to being forced far into debt and servitude. Fair trade products meet certain conditions that assure that farmers get a fair price, encouraging them to improve their conditions and pay their own workers fairly. With this money the farmers can invest in their local economy, stimulating sustainability and helping developing countries. Another fair trade guideline assures that the farmers are using recyclable materials and are being good to their land. It also helps farmers work towards growing organically. And when the farmers are paid fair wages, they have less reason to cut corners when growing your food, assuring that your food is better quality and more natural. It's true that fair trade goods are often a little more expensive than the cheapest brands out there, but the good that you do is more than worth it. Also, the more popular fair trade products get, the cheaper and cheaper they can sell them to you, as has been happening since the fair trade movement began. Everyone wins... except the selfish, greedy middle man companies that avoid fair trade guidelines; their profits go down. How sad. You should buy Fair trade products because it means that the farmers, traders and exporters, shippers, producers and the sellers all get the same amount of money. if you dont buy fair trade then the farmers who do the most work get the least amount of money (5p) It is better for farmers in poor working conditions because they get paid a fairer price for the produce they sell. You should buy fairtrade products because it means that more of the profit made from the money you spend on it goes back to the actual grower of the product instead of the middle-man.
Has fair trade helped any one?
That is a highly debatable question in the book "how fair trade is fair trade coffee" it explains that although certifyed fair trade promots its self to offer a fair value, it is still extreamly low compared to the selling price in the United States (this concerns coffee)

there arn't any. the government is lying to you. the fair trade has high increased fats, even worse than normal.

What is difference between fair trade and fairly traded?
