The only industry on Fraser Island is tourism or, more specifically, camping. The island is heritage-listed, and thus protected by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which manages the campgrounds. Recreational fishing is undertaken, but it is not an industry.
There is now no mining of any kind on Fraser Island. However, sand mining and timber logging were both industries on the island until sand mining was stopped in 1976 and timber logging in 1991.
