I've been taking Prozac for over 15yrs. and I have not side effects

Well I guess not everyone was so lucky not to suffer from this drug, I took this drug between the years of 1997 to 2001, not only did I suffer from everyone of the side-effects, but some of them are still with me today. I was prescribed this drug for depression, what wasnt know about this drug is that some of the side effects are permanent, such as akathisia(the inablity to stay still) it also can cause permanent depression, bi-polar disorders, hypokinesia, if you wanna know more go to http://www.sntp.net/Prozac/breggin_prozac_1.htm

Is there any way to jump start metabolism after stopping Prozac to loss weight from Prozac?

Prozac is generally a weight loss drug -----so in general watching what you eat and exercise during and or after taking the drug should help. If a healthy lifestyle does not help have your thyroid checked. Prozac can rarely affect the functioning of your thyroid which may inadvertently be slowing down your metabolism. Clinically, weight gain has not been recognized as a side-effect of Prozac, however, a quick search of the internet reveals many users who know from first hand experience that it can slow the metabolism and even increase your appetite. Fluoxetine has a long half-life and can remain in your system for a month and a half after ceasing taking the drug. After this time frame, you may notice your metabolism returns to normal. Unfortunately, this is an unpredictable process and many people who take Prozac have trouble losing weight after their treatment, despite a controlled diet and exercise.

How much is an overdose of fluoxetine hydrochloride?

The dosage of fluoxetine hydrochloride required for an overdose depends both on the mass of the person in question and how long that person has been taking the drug. For approximately four weeks, the level of fluoxetine in the bloodstream increases, as its presence inhibits its own metabolization. This decreases the amount of fluoxetine required to reach a level associated with adverse effects. The lowest known dosage of fluoxetine hydrochloride associated with death was 520 mg. However, the actual cause of death in this case was not confirmed to be overdose. On the other hand, the largest known overdose of only fluoxetine hydrochloride was 8 full grams. This patient subsequently made a full recovery.

Is Prozac a drug used to treat ADD?

No; Paxil is brand-name paroextine and is used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Paroxetine has shown no benefit in treating ADHD, however it is sometimes prescribed in addition to another medication used to treat ADHD if depression exists. In some cases, depression can cause lack of focus with is unrelated to having ADHD; taking Paxil can cause a person who was previously depressed to be able to focus.
