That depends on how you mean to "skip" a period. If you do not get your period for a month, then there could be medical reasons for that. If you take the pill and effectively stop your period for a month, my doctor stated that it was fine. As long as you do not do that every month. There are also other forms of Birth Control that stop a period for a specified time frame, which are not harmful.

No - arguably it is a side effect (of a possible hormone or nutrition imbalance.) Assuming you've been regular (which could be every 2 months or so,) when you hit about three months, though, you should call your doctor

My girl friends OBGYN recently discussed this with her. My girl friend said that her OBGYN said that our ancestors only had their periods once every two years roughly because they were constantly pregnant or breast feeding. I do not know how accurate this is, but she said that it does not hurt to miss a period or to take birth control to miss periods. It's the natural cleansing of the body and the shedding of the uterus, but if it does not shed it cant be to harmful, this is a debated question because medical professionals do not really have enough data or medical research to answer this question accurately.
