I would think that all wars share similarities such as suffering , greed , human pride , the desire for power , jealousy . The first thing that came to mind when your question was posted was Thucydides' "History of the Peloponnesian War" in which the reader sees encapsulated the politics , the debates , the human endeavour to prevail over the enemy and the tragedy of war in it's terror and suffering of the common man when stirred by nationalism and patriotism .
