As an actor who has been in commercials, TV, and movies I have to comment in this posting. The best thing to do is go to Michiganacting.com and/or Michiganfilmoffice.org to see where they are auditioning. The best advice I can give is to hone your craft and get an agent. They are the ones that will be able to submit you for a lot of jobs and will know when the jobs are available. Sometimes you will never know about these jobs without the agents. When I was in Army Wives I could only submit for speaking roles through my agent. Even when I auditioned for Vampire Diaries, Drop Dead Diva, One Tree Hill and movies like The Conspirator and Little Red Wagon, to name a few. There is no other way you can submit to the Casting Director without the help of these agents. Just make sure they don't charge you money unless you get the job. And even with that...they take a small percentage of your pay.
Best of luck to anyone who is looking to get into this field. Just make sure you get a college degree so that you have something to fall back on. Especially in Michigan...the jobs are few and far between.
GOOD LUCK and BREAK-A-LEG.
