Dear friend, thanks for your interest in fasting. Fasting and prayer together will make your relationship with God grow to extreme lengths. Biblically, the truest form of fasting is no foods, just water. Jesus and Moses did 40 days and 40 nights of this type of fast, and so have many others through the ages.

Another type of fast is the Daniel fast--water, juices, vegetables. Remember the story of how Daniel and the 3 boys fasted like that for 10 days and were stronger and healthier than any of the kings men who ate meat.

Now that is the physically aspect of it, we need to understand the spiritual side of it. The reason fasting is so important is because it derives of us of something we need--food. Not into starvation mindset, but allowing God to flow through us spiritually. When we begin to fast, and get hungry, we then must turn that hunger from food to God. As we focus on God and His Word through fasting and prayer, we will grow stronger and more sensitive to His Holy spirit.

The answer before this one was:

"yes there are forms of fasting in Christianity. - you can use fasting as a way to focus on God as you pray for others - you can fast as a way of seeking Gods will

- or you can fast while you ask God to cleanse your heart and forgive you, and ask him to refocus your life on Him

many times in The Bible fasting is used as a way to truly show repentance or in in order to cast out demons. Fasting can be very beneficial if it's done with the right reasons BUT fasting does NOT make you more holy or automatically closer to God. the only way to grow Closer to God or find his will if through reading the Word, praying and, spending time alone with God, AND by acting on his word. but most important of all these is loving God and loving others & ABIDING in faith, hope, and love.fasting does nothing apart from God's power. (except maybe physical benefits.)"
