Are there laws for forest fires?

In the US, the primary laws that would be used if there was a forest fire are:

  1. arson, if the fire was proven to be deliberately set;
  2. criminal mischief, if the action met certain criteria;
  3. destruction of private / personal property, if the fire was deliberately set.

However, many forest fires arise from lightning strikes. There can be no charges brought if that is the case.
