Yes. You can dab a small amount on mouth ulcers for a little bit of relief, pop it down the sink with warm water to deoderise bad smells, leave in the fridge in a small container to absorb odours, release stains from the driveway by sprinkle and scrubing, add to washing, use as bath soak, remove cutlery/ cup stains by making a smooth paste... and you can use as carpet deoderiser too!

The above uses are for Baking SODA, not Baking Powder. :) Baking soda is pure bicarbonite of soda. Baking powders are leaveners used for cooking. They are made up of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda); an acid salt which reacts with moisture or heat, or both - such as tartaric acid, mono-calcium or combination of acid salts; and cornstarch (an inert filler used to keep ingredients separated).

What leavening agent is used in quick breads?

Leavening agents are the ingredients that make the baked goods rise so they are light and airy. It could be yeast, baking soda, or baking powder. Sometimes in cakes, the eggs are whipped into a froth to add air to the cake and this acts as a leavening agent.

What has baking powder in it?

This is only a guide. Anything that needs to rise or uses self-raising flour. This is because if you do not have any SR flour you can use plain flour and baking powder. Also using baking powder you can control how much food will rise. This is especially useful for cakes as all ovens are different. Other recipes that may use baking powder could be scones and some biscuits.

Are baking soda and baking powder considered rising agents as yeast is?

Yes, baking soda and baking powder serve as rising agents in some recipes, as yeast does in others.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yes, all three are considered to be types of leavening. However baking soda and baking powder work by a different process than yeast does to generate the carbon dioxide that causes the dough or batter to rise, therefore they also have different uses in recipes.

What is the difference between baking soda and baking powder and yeast?

Yeast, like baking soda (and baking powder), is used to leavened baked goods . The difference between these leavening agents is that baking powder/soda react chemically to produce the carbon dioxide that makes the baked goods rise. Yeast, on the other hand, is a living organism and the carbon dioxide it produces is the result of the yeast feeding on the dough. When yeast is used in baked goods it not only increases the volume but also improves the texture, grain and flavor of the bread.
