Most sleep problems are caused by people not learning healthy ways to deal with stress - they worry and worry and then they can't sleep because they can't shut off their brains. They need to learn to meditate and find other ways of dealing instead of worrying, then they can sleep.
Other problems can be caused by disease, medication and natural aging (older people need only around 6 hours of sleep a night instead of 8).
