The Brown Pelican is the smallest Pelican species. They normally weigh between six and twelve pounds, with an average wingspan of six to eight feet in width. This doesn't seem to be a small bird, but in comparison to the larger species of Pelicans this is considered smallest. The Brown Pelican is listed by the International Union of Conservation for Nature, or the IUCN Red List, they are listed with a status of "least concern".
