I do think the days of prophets are over. The last one was John the Baptist. Now people claim to be prophets. But they need not be called by God.
Another Answer:
Consider 'Agabus' in Acts 21:10 and the Two Witnesses of Revelation along with the False Prophet as well :)
You are correct that the history of man, especially today, have many calling themselves 'prophets' or 'apostle' for money or self-glorification or both.
But most importantly, consider Jesus Christ (John 6:14).
Answer
Let us consider how we may know for a certainty if there is a prophet on the earth today. In James Ch.1 are the words "If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God..........". Though I respect the previous answers I would rather put my trust in someone who knows the answer to this question. As for myself I am inclined to believe that there is a prophet on the earth today for God knows we need one. The question is where is he and where do we find him. I guess it is back to James to find the answer.
The meaning of exile prophets means prophets who worked while in exile like daniel, post exile prophets are prophets just before a exile came like Jeremiah.
Jewish tradition is that, like the other prophets, Jeremiah wrote the book which is named after him. (Talmud, Bava Bathra 14b-15a.)
the two types of prophets are major and minor. It major and minor is referred to as the length of their books not importance. major are: Isaiah, Lamentations, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel minor are: the 12 books between hosea to malachi
They, like all loyal Jews, believed in the entire Torah and its accompanying oral tradition. See also:Basic Jewish beliefsWhat is the Torah for?The purpose of the Israelite prophets
This question makes no sense. If you had asked were all of the Prophets in Benjamin from Benjamin (or similar) there would have been an answer, but Levi referred only to the Priests and they had no territories to call their own. They lived in the cities at the Holy Sites. Most prophets (like Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Elijah, and Elisha) were all not Levites, but some like Moses were.
Another answer from our community:God called him to be a prophet. He said that He had chosen Jeremiah from before he was even conceived.Jeremiah initially says he does not know how to speak and that he is too young to be a prophet. God promises that He will give him the words to say and that He will be with him always. (Jeremiah chapter 1, verses 2 - 10).
I believe you mean a major prophet. Whether a prophet is "major" or "minor" has to deal with the amount of writing they produced. Major prophets (like Isaiah or Jeremiah) wrote a lot, whereas minor prophets (like Baruch and others) wrote very little. It has nothing to do with how much work or how much good the prophet did.
That is like asking why do we have still have gravity today. Truth is not a popularity contest.
The most basic fact in the old testament is the sending of Gods prophets there were quite a few of them to tell the people and kings to change their ways like samuel and Jeremiah. But they did mot listen to them.
Israelite writers of the Hebrew Bible are often referred to as scribes or authors of the Old Testament. Some well-known Israelite writers include Moses, David, Solomon, and the prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah.
The distinction between major prophet and minor prophet with respect to the Old Testament and Hebrew scripture is not necessarily intuitive. The minor prophets refer to a collection of writing of 12 prophets in a single book in the Hebrew scripture but broken into separate books in the Christian Old Testament (Hoseato Malachi). Major Prophet describes the longer books of prophecies in The Bible whose name matches the prophet it describes namely Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.Elijah and Elisha would be considered in the top ten of prophets yet they are not "Major" prophets because their record is found in books of 1 and 2 Kings rather than in the prophetic writings. So the terms "major" and "minor" in this context refers to two groups of books and does not signify their importance.
They are still creepy
