We'd all like to hope the answer is yes, but it's a little too soon to tell. Usually around the time of the CW finales they begin announcing which shows will return for another season and which won't. Based on the ratings and fanbase of TVD, it's most likely that there will be a season four, but we'll have to wait and see!
Nina Dobrev did an interview yesterday (January 2nd 2012) and said that there's definitely going to be a 4th season.

∙ 13y agoSeason 1 will not be over until May (it has 22 episodes) but on February 16th, it was officially confirmed that the show will be getting a second season.
