How are solids liquids and gases particles different?

solids are packed tightly together with no gaps liquids are joined together in groups of about three particles and there are noticeable gaps between each group and gases are separate particles which just bounce around randomly.

How are the particles in a solid?

Particles within are limited to vibrational motion, unlike the particles which make up liquids which can have vibrational & translational motion, and gaseous particles which have vibrational, translational and rotational motion.

Does a solid liquid or gas take its shape from a container?

In a solid the particles are in a regular patten and are packed tightly together so it doesn't take the shape of it's container. The particles in liquids and gases are more spread out and able to move and bounce against the sides of the container. Basically since they are more spread out the can move and change shape. I'm pretty sure this is right. .

Why is Gortex breathable?

the particles that make up the Goretex structure are close enough together to not allow rainwater to enter, but they do allow the perspiration molecules to leave. a droplet of rain is far bigger than one of perspiration, meaning the gaps in Goretex mesh can be almost microscopic.

How do kitchen towels absorb water?

Paper towels are able to absorb because they are pourous, which means that they have many tiny holes and gaps. These holes and gaps are able to suck up the water due to capillary action. Each little space in the surface of the paper towel has its own tiny bubble of surface tension, or capillary action. These bubbles are formed when the towel comes into contact with liquid because the liquid in each tiny space is kept separate from the liquid in other pores and pockets. This allows the bubbles of liquid to be held in place and even sucked upward because each pocket contains so little water that the intermolecular attraction is stronger than the gravitational pull on the liquid.

What happens to liquid particles as they freeze?

If I am not wrong..this is what I learnt in chemistry. When a liquid is being frozen, the particles of that liquid will lose kinetic energy and slow down, causing them to move closer together. Thus, as the gaps between the particles decrease and the particles themselves get into a fixed position, it becomes a solid & the particles [only] vibrate in their fixed position. =D

How liquid is the NASDAQ?

Individual stocks on the exchange are mostly fairly liquid, having multiple trades each day. There are exceptions of stocks that trade rarely or with large gaps between bid and ask prices.

Why do roads have the gaps between the large pieces of concrete?

They are expansion gaps that allow for the expansion and contraction of the concrete.

What is the definition of dissolve?

Dissolving is where the solute (solid) fills the gaps in the solvent (liquid) particles, creating a solution (a mixture of solute and solvent).
