The hay idea has been suggested, but as far as I can tell, it is not being used. It was never intended to stop the spill, just help pick up oil. It probably does work, however picking up large amounts of hay and disposing of them might be a problem. They are capturing some of the oil using skimmers. Remember, the spill area is very large, and oil is still coming from the well.
