More than the height of the heel is is the angle of the heel to the ball of the foot in the shoe that affects much of the comfort. Shoes with platform soles can give much height yet feel very comfortable and stable. I wore 2 1/2 to 3" heels much of my working life (about 25 years) and now have problems in my foot bones/toes from the pressure that is put on the front of the foot as your weight is pitched forward on them. I only wear flats now.
