Since 1995
Dolby 5.1 is a multi-channel audio format. Basically meaning, it's surround sound. There is a Left, Centre, Right, Left Surround, Right Surround and LFE (Sub) Speaker. Dolby 2.0 is simply 2 speakers, Left and Right. Similar to the Stereo sound you get from your TV. The Dolby bit means it has been compressed and encoded using Dolby technolgies, normally AC3.
ALF, a 1980's American sitcom about the Tanner family that takes in an alien, was the first television show to be broadcast with Dolby Surround Sound in 1986.
Dolby Digital is a surround format that is quite common for DVDs, HD broadcasts and some television shows. It has 5 discrete channels of audio (3 front, 2 back, 1 sub) that create a durround environment with each speaker independantly producing a separate sound. This format has been extended and other versions are constantly being released.
Check in the menu of the av receiver, it should have a setting for surround sound DTS and/or Dolby Pro-Logic. The program has to be made in surround for you to get true surround in your home.
Go into the audio menu on the TV and try different settings, is there a Dolby setting?
I would suggest adding a 5.1 dolby surround sound system, along with a blue ray player,to make the home theater complete.
they are very good at 240p full hd with dolby surround sound very good i have one you can get them from tesco for 250 quid i have to say the speakers are really good thats nwhy i bought the tv for i have to say when you listen to the sound quality you will be amazed..........
You will need a sound card with a digital output (coaxial or optical) or a sound card with surround audio outputs and a receiver with 5.1 analog inputs to make it work.
If you are looking for physical speakers made by Dolby, then you are out of luck. They do not exist. Dolby does not make speakers, they make audio encoding, decoding, and processing technologies. Some products, like televisions and audio/video receivers, may contain one Dolby technology called "Dolby Virtual Speaker". Usually the logo can be seen on the front of the product.
Adding surround sound will not affect the performance of your TV, but it will enhance some of the sound you get from your TV. But be aware, not all TV audio will give you a "wow" reaction. Sitcoms, news and other general shows don't feature very exotic audio to begin with. Music shows (CMT, VH1, PBS) will sound very nice on your surround system. You will mostly notice enhanced audio when watching a DVD movie which has embedded surround-sound and the audio will sound much like what you hear in a movie theater.
Hi, Probably, but depending on your TV set's system, you may not get surround sound but instead, standard stereo. That's because surround sound needs an encoded signal to work properly and the TV's audio system may not pass that portion of the signal through the audio chain. Give it a try. If it works, great. If it doesn't, you'll have your answer. Hope that helps, Cubby
Connect your PS3 to your TV then connect you surround sound to your TV.
