It really depends on how your dog is and how your cat is. My two westie get along PERFECTLY with my cat and they sometimes chase her, but we can protect her if there is a serious probem. I recommend that you get a gate, maybe a baby gate, and put it somewhere and If the cat is being chased by the dog, she can jump over. I really think that westies are fine with cats though, westie dont hurt anyone unless someone gets in their face in a bad way. If your an Adult and have kids, their VERY kid friendly too.
