Wolves don't get hunted for food. They are usually hunted for sport, their fur, and to protect livestock. Also, human's don't have much food. In North America and most of Europe, they do - but everywhere else there is often problems with finding food.

There is no sensible reason. Wolves are not meant to be hunted. The only reasons people kill wolves is because they either like killing things as beautiful as wolves, or they think it's manly and tough. Or the wolves could be raiding livestock, but they don't know any better!
