If you have the wifi connected, it automatically switches to wifi and turns off the network connection. Weird situations can occur, like for instance if i initiated a data stream (like Pandora), then moved into a wifi zone and the phone connects to the wifi....but your existing Pandora connection may still be streaming through 3G.
