In a word, Price. Blue ray disks are best viewed with HDTV's for maximum picture clarity, this is expensive if you do not have one already. On top of that, Blue Ray Disks are more expensive than conventional DVDs.

Why are floppy disks useful?
Presumably because they are an easier way to carry around data than dismantling and transporting a hard drive.It is highly doubtful whether floppy disks are useful today, they have too little capacity. A USB flash drive serves the same purpose (simple to carry data around) in a smaller format and with more storage space.For permanent backups or installing programs, CDs and DVDs have taken over the role of the floppy disks.
