Every age is a good age for a horse. But for certain work a horse is in his prime from 5 through 15. For young riders with little experience an older horse is the best bet.

It is most common for any horse, including Shires, to have only one foal. However it is possible for any breed to be able to have two, Shires included.
You can age the horse with ageing points - click "age my horse" to the middle left of your horse's page and age him 2 months without waiting. Or, you can simply wait until the next day when the horse will have aged naturally.
A person can own a horse at any age as long as they are responsible and can care for the animal accordingly.
