There are many. This story started as folklore and was finally written down for the first time by Charles Perrault. Then the Grimm Brothers had a go in the 1800's. There are dozens and dozens of different versions of the story, written by people all over the world.

∙ 10y agoIt is impossible to know. Like most Fairy Tales, they originate in oral tradition, and tracing back to the original is nigh impossible. One of the earliest known versions is called The Grandmother, and comes from France. There is a famous version written by Pereault, and another by the brothers Grimm. Pereault's version was written down before the brothers Grimm version.
