Before Muhammad became the prophet of Islam he was doing what?

Islam was not founded by prophet Muhammad (PBUH) or any human. Islam is an Arabic word that means submission to Allah (God in English). In this universal sense, it is Allah command to all His creatures since start of universe creation and even before. As for mankind, Allah left to people the choice of either submitting (or Islam) to Him or denying submitting (Islam) to Him and then on the Day of Judgment they will be either rewarded, forgiven, or punished by the All-Just All-Merciful Allah.

Accordingly, Islam is the religion named and founded by Allah (God in English).

• Islam per Allah revelation of Torah to prophet Moses (PBUH) is called Judaism,
• Islam per Allah revelation to The Bible to prophet Jesus (PBUH) is called Christianity, and
• Islam per Allah revelation of the Quran to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is called the very name Islam.

Islam per Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) started by start of God revelation of the first verse of Quran in year 610 AD through the revelation of the last verse of Quran in year 632 AD.

Answer AMuhammad peace be upon him, did not start Islam. He was Allah's last messenger just like Mooses ,Jesus and many others. Angel Gabriel was sent by Allah to the Prophet to reveal the Holy book Quran over him so he would preach it to others. Islam religion is not a human religion to have a human founder. Islam religion is the religion per God revelation of Quran to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the angel Gabriel. Quran revelation started by year 610 AD and continued through year 632 Ad (year of prophet Muhammad death).

It is also important to highlight that Islam is an Arabic word that means submission to God and surrender to His will. The root of the word Islam is 'selm' that means peace. This indicates that peace between you and yourself and God and between yourself and mankind is achieved through submission to God, the Creator, i.e through Islam.

In light of this universal sense of Islam, God says in Quran that Islam is the faith of all prophets and their followers since start of mankind, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace be upon them all). Islam is even God mission to all God creations including our universe, the planets, the sun and the moon, the rivers and the seas, ..., and all that we know and that we don't know. All these creatures have full submission (Islam) to God, the one and only one God with no partner, no son, and no associate.

Answer CIslam is NOT a new religion founded by Prophet Mohammad(peace be on him). Islam means submission and obedience to the creator who created us. A person who does Islam is a Muslim, like a person who drives is a driver and a person who sings is a singer. A person does NOT become a Muslim because of a name or because he was born in a particular geographic location or family. If a person irrespective of his name, skin color, social status etc submits and obeys the creator, he is called as a Muslim in Arabic. If you submit and obey your creator, you are called a Muslim. All the prophets of God right from Adam,Noah,Solomon,Abraham,David,JESUS(peace be on them all) practiced and preached the same way of life called Islam(Submission to the CREATOR). The last and the FINAL Prophet and Messenger of God was Prophet Mohammad(peace be on him). WHAT DOES THE QURAN SAY? The message of all the prophets of God was the same. All the prophets of God taught people to worship the God who created them (complete submission and obedience to God). "And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me." QURAN Chapter 21: Verse 25 Prophet Mohammed (peace be on him) did not bring a new message. He too revived the same message brought by the previous prophets sent by God. Recite: "Nothing is said to you, [O Mohْammad], except what was already said to the messengers before you." QURAN Chapter 41: Verse 43 He has ordained for you of the same religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Mohْammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) didn't write the quran by himself. Quran was revealed to the prophet by God through the angel Jibril (or Gabriel). He conveyed it to his followers who memorized it, recited it through their prayers, and wrote it down.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) called people to worship the one and only one God, taught people the good Islam morals, taught them how to perform ritual worships, conveyed Quran teachings to them. Refer to questuions below.
